SP quer vacinar 2,4 milhões de crianças contra a paralisia infantil
Campanha acontece no dia 8 de junho; 11,2 mil postos de saúde abrirão das 8h às 17h em todo o Estado para imunizar crianças entre seis meses e menores de cinco anos de idade
A Secretaria de Estado da Saúde de São Paulo pretende imunizar 2,4 milhões de crianças contra a polimielite (paralisia infantil) no próximo dia 8 de junho. O número corresponde à meta de cobertura de 95% dos 2,5 milhões de paulistas com mais de seis meses e menores de cinco anos de idade, público-alvo da campanha de vacinação (veja dados regionais abaixo).
Das 8h às 17h deste sábado haverá 11,2 mil postos de saúde, fixos e volantes, abertos para aplicar as duas gotas da vacina Sabin, que protege contra a pólio. Para a campanha deste ano serão mobilizados, em parceria com as prefeituras, 49,2 mil profissionais de saúde, além de 3,5 mil veículos, 70 ônibus e quatro barcos.
Na capital as salas de vacina das rodoviárias do Tietê e da Barra Funda estarão abertas entre 8h e 20h. Em razão da reforma em sua sala de vacinação, o Instituto Pasteur, na avenida Paulista, não participa da campanha deste ano.
A novidade neste ano é a mudança da faixa etária abrangida pela campanha. Receberão as doses em gotas da vacina Sabin apenas as crianças maiores de seis meses. Além da vacina contra a poliomielite, os pais ou responsáveis que levarem a caderneta de vacinação de seus filhos em algum dos postos fixos poderão aproveitar para atualizar as doses de outros tipos de vacina que estejam em atraso.
São Paulo não registra nenhum caso de paralisia infantil desde 1988. No entanto, como o vírus da poliomielite ainda circula em países da África e da Ásia, é fundamental que todas as crianças menores de cinco anos sejam imunizadas.
“A vacina é a única forma eficaz de prevenção contra a paralisia infantil. São duas gotas que podem salvar vidas.”, afirma Helena Sato, diretora de Imunização da Secretaria.
Causada pelo poliovírus selvagem, a poliomielite é caracterizada por febre, mal-estar, cefaleia e pode causar paralisia. A vacina é segura e os efeitos colaterais são extremamente raros.
